What is Temporomandibular Joint Disorders TMJ/TMD?

Temporomandibular joint and muscle disorders are problems of the chewing muscles and joints that connect your lower jaw to your skull.

What Causes TMJ Disorder?

TMJ disorder relates to a group of complex issues with the jaw joint, It is also referred to as Myofacial pain disfunction and Costen’s syndrome.

The following can lead to TMJ Disorders:

  • Dental Problems and misalignment of the teeth (A bad bite)
  • Stress and tooth grinding
  • Trauma to the jaws, previous fractures in the jaw or facial bones
  • Poor Posture
  • Lack of Sleep
  • Habitual gum chewing or fingernail biting

Some of the TMJ symptoms may be:

  • Biting or chewing difficulty or discomfort
  • Dull pain in the face
  • Earache
  • Headache
  • Tenderness of the jaw
  • Reduced ability to open or close the mouth
