Dental Sealants are a plastic material coating placed on the chewing surfaces of the permanent back teeth. It is performed early to protect the teeth from decay.

How are sealants applied?

Applying sealants does not require drilling or removing tooth structure. After the tooth is cleaned the sealant is applied (painted) to the surface of the tooth.

When is a Dental Sealant applied?

The first dental sealant is applied when the first permanent moral erupts completely beyond the gum. This way all the molars can be sealed as they start to erupt.

How long will sealants last?

A sealant can last for as long as 5-10 years and they can be reapplied if required.

Can Dental Sealants be placed on adult Teeth?

Yes, although it is uncommon, they can be placed in the grooves of the adult Teeth as long as the teeth have no decay or have not already had a filling done.
